Quick facts about the Rabbana duas:

Count: 40+ supplications in the Quran beginning with Rabbana or Rabbi
Source: Quran, directly revealed words of Allah
Coverage: forgiveness, family, knowledge, patience, protection, righteous offspring, victory
Most frequent du'a of the Prophet ﷺ: Quran 2:201 (Sahih al-Bukhari 6389)
Status: recommended (mustahabb) at every du'a moment
Reward: du'a + Quran recitation in one act

The Rabbana duas are the Quran's own gift to those who want to learn to speak with Allah. Every one is a model: short enough to memorize, deep enough to cover entire areas of life. When Adam (AS) needed forgiveness, the Quran preserves his exact words. When Ibrahim (AS) prayed for his offspring, the verses give us the phrasing. When the believers asked for patience and victory, the Quran records the supplication that won. Learning the 40 Rabbana duas means learning the Quran's vocabulary for the most important conversation any human has.

This guide gives you all 40, Arabic, transliteration, English meaning, verse reference, and a brief note on context, so you can choose the right one for the right moment.

Tip: FivePrayer includes a daily du'a card that rotates through the 40 Rabbana duas, one each day with Arabic, transliteration, and meaning. Memorize them gradually, painlessly. Free on iOS, Android, and Chrome.

Why memorize the Rabbana duas?

Three reasons stand out:

  • They are divinely approved. Allah preserved these specific supplications in the Quran because they please Him. When you recite them, you are using words He chose.
  • They are comprehensive. Across the 40, every major human need is covered, forgiveness, family, sustenance, patience, knowledge, refuge from sin, righteous offspring, a good end. Whatever situation you face, there is a Quranic dua for it.
  • They are double-rewarded. Reciting Quran is rewarded in itself. Making du'a is rewarded in itself. The Rabbana duas combine both, you receive the reward of recitation and the reward of supplication simultaneously.

Anas ibn Malik (RA) reported that the most frequent du'a of the Prophet ﷺ was: "Rabbana atina fid-dunya hasanatan wa fil-akhirati hasanatan wa qina 'adhaban-nar", Quran 2:201 (Sahih al-Bukhari 6389). The Prophet ﷺ himself, given the entire Quran, chose to repeat this Rabbana dua more than any other.
